About CYC:  CAAM’s youth choir extension Columbia Youth Choirs (CYC) was established in 2013 to serve students in grades K-12 of any ability level, economic background, and cultural or religious affiliation. Its membership represents over 30 public, private, and homeschool programs in the region. The seven choirs and CYC Academy classes offered ensure any interested singer an opportunity to receive high-quality vocal music education at an affordable price. CYC is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization, registered with the State of Missouri.

Location

First semester singers may choose to participate in-person or via Zoom. For those interested in attending in-person rehearsals, rehearsals will take place at Nickell Shelter, a covered outdoor shelter at Cosmo Park [1615 Business Loop 70 W., Park Map HERE], in 30 minute increments with 20 minutes between ensembles to allow for disinfecting and distanced arrivals/departures.  To select a rehearsal location, be sure to fill out our Sign-Up Form.  You must be registered to attend in-person rehearsals to be allowed into the rehearsal.  Singers may switch from virtual to in-person rehearsals only through written communication with the CYC Coordinator and IF there is enough space in the in-person rehearsals to allow for proper social distancing.

Second semester we hope to be back in our rehearsal space at Columbia Independent School, 1801 N. Stadium Blvd.

COVID-19 Procedures

Singers selecting the in-person option will wear masks, bring their own music folders and pencil, and sing spaced at least 10 feet apart, in compliance with the guidelines recommended in the International Coalition of Performing Arts Aerosol Study (Recommendations are near the end of THIS document).

Rehearsals will be broadcasted via Zoom, so students at home may participate in real-time.

For those interested in purchasing a specialized mask for singing, we recommend “The Singers Mask” or the “Resonance Singers Mask with disposable biofilters.”

Tuition

Keeping costs low is a vital component of CYC. Our tuition ranges $25-$125 per year depending on the class or ensemble. That’s just $4-$6 a week! Similar nearby choral programs cost up to seven times more (not including uniforms and tours). Our low rates do not cover the actual running cost of $416.88 per child. If you’re able, please consider adding a donation of $250 (or whatever you can give!) to help with costs such as staff salaries, sheet music, venue rentals, and printing. Or sponsor another singer in need! Click here to give.

Reduced Session Fees for 2020-2021

Poco Voce: $60/session (offered February-April 2021)   ($5/class)

Primo Choir, Cambiare, Bella Voce, Canta Bella: $65/session or $125/year  ($4.31/rehearsal)

CAAM Academy Class: $25/class (non-CYC members only: add one-time yearly $25 administrative fee) ($6.25/class)

Have several singers in your family? Don’t worry! CYC offers multi-child/family discounts: 1st child is full price, and any additional siblings are 20% off.

Academy Classes still require additional fees
