Canta Bella Sings Beautifully

Open to treble voices in grades 8-12*

Sundays, 5:20-6:00 p.m.

Emily Edgington Andrews, conductor

Maddie Jenkins, pianist

This select ensemble offers treble voices in grades 8-12 advanced training in choral singing and vocal technique in an intense, focused, and positive environment. The repertoire is varied and appropriately challenging, with members expected to learn and retain music quickly.

This select ensemble performs frequently throughout the year, sometimes in combination with other CYC ensembles. Notable past experiences include performing of Britten’s Saint Nicolas with the University Philharmonic, University Singers, and Choral Union in Jesse Hall at University of Missouri; multiple past performances of Orff’s Carmina Burana with the Columbia Chorale and Missouri Contemporary Ballet/Mareck Ballet Company in Missouri Theatre and Jesse Hall; Sing by the Carpenters on the University Concert Series presentation of “The Music of the Carpenters”; and a variety of bluegrass, folk standards, and world music in concert with the Chicago-based professional women’s trio Artemisia.

  • A year of participation in Bellas is recommended before placement in Canta Bella, though exceptions may apply.
  • Members of Canta Bella MUST also participate in The Bellas, which rehearses from 4:30-5:20 p.m.
