Canta Bella (Treble Voices Grades 8-12, Auditioned)
Canta Bella Sings Beautifully
Open to treble voices in grades 8-12*
Sundays, 5:20-6:00 p.m.
Emily Edgington Andrews, conductor
This select ensemble offers treble voices in grades 8-12 advanced training in choral singing and vocal technique in an intense, focused, and positive environment. The repertoire is varied and appropriately challenging, with members expected to learn and retain music quickly.
Canta Bella performs frequently throughout the year, sometimes with Bella Voce or other CYC ensembles. Recent notable performances include Benjamin Britten’s Saint Nicolas with the University Philharmonic, University Singers, and Choral Union in Jesse Hall; Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana with the Columbia Chorale and Missouri Contemporary Ballet; Sing by the Carpenters on the University Concert Series; and bluegrass, folk, and world music with Chicago-based professional trio Artemisia. In addition to concerts, singers may participate in retreats, special rehearsals, and community outreach performances.
- A year of participation in Bellas is recommended before placement in Canta Bella, though exceptions may apply.
- Members of Canta Bella MUST also participate in The Bellas, which rehearses from 4:30-5:20 p.m.
